Swain was last nerfed in Patch 26.4 (). Across 58 patches, Swain has received 18 buffs, 11 nerfs, 28 adjustments since release in Patch 1.0.0.102.

Passive - Ravenous Flock
Effect Radius: 1100 / sight 250

Innate: Enemy champions that death will leave behind a Soul Fragment for 16 seconds. Swain's ravens will collect nearby dropped Soul Fragments, as well as rip the Soul Fragments out of champions hit by Vision of Empire or Nevermove 2 recast. Once a raven has collected a Soul Fragment, it will fly towards Swain to grant it to him, while also granting sight of its surroundings during the travel. Soul Fragment: For each stack, Swain gains 15 bonus health permanently. Upon claiming the fragment, he will heal for 6% of his maximum health.

Active: Swain launches a demonic wave in the target direction.

Magic Damage: 90 / 130 / 170 / 210 / 250 (+ 70% AP)

At maximum range, the wave homes back to Swain and detonates upon the first enemy hit, dealing magic damage to nearby enemies and root them for 1.5 seconds, during which they are standard sight. Nevermove can be recast while champions hit are rooted.

Recast: Swain airborne the rooted champions over 290 units and collects a Soul Fragment from each of them, sight himself for 5 seconds. If the targets would be pulled past Swain, they rebound off of him instead, airborne the excess distance.

Active: Swain frees the demon within himself, gaining Demonic Ascension and generating 50 Demonic Energy. Demonic Ascension is maintained with Demonic Energy, which decays by 5 every 0.5 seconds, increased to 7.5 after 5 seconds have elapsed, and is lost once all Demonic Energy is depleted to 0 . Swain generates 10 Demonic Energy every 0.5 seconds while draining from at least one enemy champion, and fully restores it to the maximum of 50 upon scoring a champion takedown.

Demonic Ascension: Swain is ghosted and drains the lifeforce of nearby enemies, both dealing magic damage and healing himself every 0.5 seconds per target affected. The heal is reduced by 90% against minions and monsters.

After 2 seconds, Swain gains the ability to cast Demonflare, up to 100 times, and does so automatically when Demonic Ascension expires if Demonflare is not on cooldown.

The targets do not have to be to be hit by this ability.

Swain can move during Demonic Ascension's cast time.

Patch 26.4nerf

Swain is running rampant through bot lane right now and doing quite well in mid, too. His bot lane playstyle is more strongly tied to Malignance and his role as a bot laner is more about his damage output. Meanwhile in the support role, where the majority of his players are, they mostly rush Rylai's and perform as more of a pseudo-frontliner. So with all of that in mind, we're nerfing his AP-scaling ultimate damage and inherent crowd control power in hopes to nerf bot lane while leaving support as unscathed as possible.

Swain's buff last patch didn't help him out as much as we had wanted to so we're following up to put more wind in his sails (wings? Demon wing?) We're keeping things relatively straightforward with increased healing from his passive which should be generally appreciable.

Swain is quite weak in his most-played role of support. We're giving him a little more power in his E as well as lowering its mana cost to let Swain support have more room to work with without a mana item, since he typically doesn't buy one there.

  • Removed: Outgoing missile no longer deals 35/70/105/140/175 (+ 25% AP) magic damage.
  • Detonation base damage increased to 80/120/160/200/240 from 35/45/55/65/75.
  • Detonation AP ratio increased to 60% AP from 25% AP.
  • Incoming missile width increased to 180 from 170.
  • Outgoing missile speed changed to 1125 to 1800 (based on seconds) from 935/1235/1735/2735 (based on seconds). Time to reach maximum range increased to 0.585 seconds from 0.562.
  • Incoming missile speed increased to 2000/2200/2400/2600/2800 (at level 0/0/0/0/0) (based on seconds) from 600/1400/2200 (based on seconds). Time to reach maximum range reduced to 0.4 seconds from 0.6.
  • Bug Fix: No longer displays root VFX on a rooted target if the target dies to its damage.

Demonic Ascension

  • Cooldown increased to 120 seconds at all ranks from 100/80/60.
  • New Effect: Cooldown now starts on-cast instead of post-effect.
  • Removed: No longer reduces Nevermove cooldown by 20% while in Demonic Ascension.
  • Base damage per second reduced to 15/25/35 from 20/40/60.
  • Damage per second AP ratio reduced to 5% AP from 10% AP.
  • Base heal per second increased to 15/30/45 from 15/27.5/40.

  • Bug Fix: Tooltip now properly mentions that struck champions are revealed.

  • If the root is not applied to or is removed from all targets, the recast does not become available.
  • New Effect: Now grants sight of all rooted targets.
  • New Effect: Cooldown is now reduced by 20% during Demonic Ascension.

Demonic Ascension

  • New Effect: Upon casting, Swain generates 50 Demonic Energy. Demonic Ascension lasts as long as Swain has Demonic Energy, decaying by 5 every 0.5 seconds, increased to 7.5 after 5 seconds have elapsed. Swain generates 10 Demonic Energy every 0.5 seconds while draining from at least one enemy champion, up to 50. After 2 seconds, he can recast to use Demonflare.

  • New Effect: Casting Demonflare no longer ends Demonic Ascension's effects early.

  • Flock: Enemy champion takedown leave a Soul Fragment behind. Swain restores 4%/5.5%/7% (at level 1/6/11) maximum health whenever he collects a Soul Fragment, and can store up to 5 at once.
  • Static Cooldown: 12/9/6 (at level 1/6/11) seconds

Death's Hand (Q)

  • Active: Swain unleashes five bolts of eldritch power in the target direction, dealing 65/85/105/125/145 (+ 40% AP) magic damage to the first enemies they hit. Enemies can intercept multiple bolts, taking 15/20/25/30/35% bonus damage per additional bolt.
  • Bolts that kill their targets continue onward and restore 3% maximum mana. This can repeat indefinitely until the bolts reach their maximum distance.
  • Mana Cost: 65/70/75/80/85

Vision of Empire (W)

  • Active: Swain summons a demonic eye at the target area that sight it for 2 seconds before exploding, dealing 100/150/200/250/300 (+ 70% AP) magic damage to all enemies hit, halved against non-champions, and slow them by 25/35/45/55/65% for 2.5 seconds.
  • Enemy champions are sight for 4/5/6/7/8 seconds and each grant Swain a Soul Fragment.

Nevermove (E)

  • Active: Swain launches a demonic wave in the target direction, dealing 35/70/105/140/175 (+ 25% AP) magic damage to enemies it passes through.
  • Upon reaching its maximum distance, the wave returns to Swain, detonating at the first enemy hit, dealing 35/45/55/65/75 (+ 25% AP) magic damage to all nearby enemies and root them for 1.5 seconds.

Demonic Ascension (R)

  • Active: Swain frees the demon within for 12 seconds, gaining 150/275/400 bonus health.
  • While Demonic Ascension is active, Swain drains the 3 enemies closest to him, prioritizing champions, dealing 35/50/65 (+ 14.167% AP) magic damage to them each second, and healing himself for 15/30/45 (+ 16% AP) health for each enemy hit, reduced by 80% against minions and monsters.
  • After restoring 150/300/450 (at level 6/11/16) health with Demonic Ascension, Swain can end its effects early to cast Demonflare, and automatically does so at the end of its duration.
  • Demonflare: Swain consumes all of his Soul Fragments, dealing 45/60/75 (+ 27% AP) magic damage per fragment to all nearby enemies based on their number.
