Swain was last buffed in Patch 6.2k (). Across 12 patches, Swain has received 8 buffs, 2 nerfs, 2 adjustments since release in Patch 4.2.

Passive - Ravenous Flock
Effect Radius: 1100

Innate: Enemy champions that die will leave behind a Soul Fragment for 16 seconds, which can be collected by Swain after 1 second. Swain's ravens collect nearby Soul Fragments, as well as with Vision of Empire and Nevermove.

Soul Fragment: Upon collection, Swain will heal for 3 maximum health and generate a permanent stack. For each stack, he gains 16 bonus health.

Active: Swain unleashes a fan of five eldritch bolts in the target direction that deals magic damage to enemies hit. Subsequent bolts against an enemy deal reduced damage.

Active: Swain summons a demon eye at the target location that grants sight of the area for 2 seconds and explodes after 1.35 seconds. The explosion deals magic damage to enemies within, slows them for 2.5 seconds, and reveals them for 4 seconds.

Enemy champions hit will have a Soul Fragment collected from them. If they were immobilized, they are dealt 50% bonus magic damage.

Active: Swain launches a claw in the target direction that deals magic damage to enemies hit. At maximum range, the claw homes back to him and detonates upon the first enemy hit, dealing magic damage to nearby enemies and rooting them for 1.5 seconds, during which they are revealed. Nevermove can be recast while champions hit are rooted.

Recast: Swain pulls the rooted champions over 290 units and collects a Soul Fragment from each of them. If the targets would be brought past Swain, they are knocked back the excess distance.

Active: Swain frees the demon within, entering Demonic Ascension and generating 50 Demonic Energy. Demonic Ascension is maintained with Demonic Energy, which decays by 5 every 0.5 seconds, increased to 7.5 after 5 seconds have elapsed, and is lost once all Demonic Energy is depleted to 0. Swain generates 10 Demonic Energy every 0.5 seconds while draining from at least one enemy champion, and fully restores it upon scoring a champion takedown.

Demonic Ascension: Swain drains the lifeforce of nearby enemies, both dealing magic damage and healing himself every 0.5 seconds per target affected. The heal is reduced to 10% against minions and monsters.

After 2 seconds, Swain can cast Demonflare. He can continue to recast during Demonic Ascension.

Targets do not have to be visible to be hit by this ability. Swain can move during the cast time.

Patch 6.2hChange

Swain’s ultimate has always lacked a little extra oomf, so we’ve decided to let him contribute more in extended fights beyond simply tanking damage. At the same time, we’ve reworked parts of how his ability feels and numbers to ensure his power remains consistent across different builds, while still leaving room for counterplay. Please note that Swain’s update will not be live until September 25, 00:01 UTC.

Ravenous Flock

  • Heal health ratio reduced from 3/4/5/6% (at level 1/5/9/13) maximum health to 2/2.5/3/3.5% (at level 1/5/9/13).

Vision of Empire

  • Detonation delay increased from 1 second to 1.35.

Demonic Ascension

  • Base damage per 0.5 seconds reduced from 15/25/35 to 10/25/40.
  • Damage AP ratio per 0.5 seconds 20% AP to 15%.

Demonflare

  • New effect: Now has a static cooldown of 6 seconds.

As a mage who likes to get right into the fights; Swain should have both durability and sustained damage. To ensure he has both, we’re strengthening his late game survivability, which will allow him to deal continuous damage more effectively during his ultimate.

Since arriving on the Rift, the Noxian Grand General has shown how strong in multiple lanes. We’re nerfing Swain's damage and survivability so that other champions don’t feel so helpless when they're up against this general and his ravens.
