Varus was last nerfed in Patch 6.3 (). Across 21 patches, Varus has received 12 buffs, 5 nerfs, 4 adjustments since release in Patch 1.1.

Passive - Living Vengeance

Innate: Varus becomes elated for 5 / 7 / 9 / 11 seconds upon killing an enemy, gaining 15% / 20% / 25% bonus attack speed as well as bonus attack damage and ability power equal to 10% of his bonus attack speed.

On a champion takedown, the effects are increased to 50% bonus attack speed as well as bonus attack damage and ability power equal to 20% of his bonus attack speed.

Active: Varus charges while being slowed by 20% for up to 4 seconds to increase Piercing Arrow's range and damage over the first 1.5 seconds of the channel.

Piercing Arrow can be recast within the duration. If the charge completes without reactivation, Piercing Arrow is cancelled and refunds 50% of the mana cost and 50% of the cooldown.

Recast: Varus fires a piercing arrow in the target direction that deals physical damage to enemies hit. The damage of the arrow is increased by 0% - 50% (based on level), and the arrow's damage is reduced by 0% / 15% / 30% / 45% / 60%.

Piercing Arrow's remaining cooldown is reduced by 4 seconds if the arrow detonates Blighted Quiver on at least one champion.

Passive: Varus' basic attacks against enemies will deal bonus magic damage and inflict a stack of Blight on-hit for 6 seconds, refreshing on subsequent hits and stacking up to 3 times. Varus' abilities detonate all Blight stacks on enemies hit.

Blight: For each stack consumed, the target is dealt bonus magic damage. The damage against monsters is capped at 120 per stack, up to 360 at maximum stacks. Each stack consumed against a champion or epic monster reduces the remaining cooldowns of basic abilities by 13% total cooldown, up to a 39% cooldown reduction per target.

Active: Varus doubles Blighted Quiver's passive on-hit damage for 6 seconds. His next Piercing Arrow within the same period will be empowered to deal bonus magic damage equal to 6% - 9% (based on level) target's missing health, increased by 0% - 50% (based on level).

Active: Varus fires a hail of arrows at the target location that land after 0.5 seconds, dealing physical damage to enemies hit.

The area then becomes desecrated for 4 seconds, slowing enemies within and inflicting them with 40% Grievous Wounds.

Active: Varus unleashes a tendril of corruption in the target direction that infects the first enemy champion hit, dealing magic damage, rooting them for 2 seconds, and revealing them for 4 seconds. They are also inflicted with maximum stacks of Blighted Quiver over 2 seconds.

Magic Damage: 150 / 250 / 350 (+ 80% AP)

Upon impact, the tendril attempts to seek out nearby enemy champions. If a target does not leave the area within 2 seconds, they subsequently become infected as well, taking the same damage and effects. A new tendril is then spread out from the infected target. The infection can spread repeatedly until there are no new targets.

The target does not have to be visible to be caught by the tendril.

Patch 6.2Change

Varus is currently overperforming when synergizing with certain items—his passive's attack speed scaling often overflows, limiting viable build paths, and his high mixed burst damage makes him difficult to counter. Therefore, we’re aiming to bring him back toward a more traditional marksman role while maintaining multiple viable playstyles.

Living Vengeance

  • Bonus attack speed reduced from 30% to 10/15/20% (at level 1/6/9).
  • Duration increased from 5/6/7/8 seconds to 5/7/9/11 (at level 1/9/13/15).
  • New effect: Varus will also gain bonus attack damage and ability power equal to 15% of his bonus attack speed, increased to 30% against a champion.

Piercing Arrow

  • Base damage increased from 20/70/120/170 to 70/130/190/250.
  • AD ratio increased from 125% AD at all ranks to 100/110/120/130%.

Blighted Quiver

  • On-hit base damage increased from 12/16/20/24 to 15/23/31/39.
  • On-hit AP ratio increased from 20% AP to 35%.
  • Blight health ratio reduced from 5/5.5/6/6.5% target's maximum health to 3.5/4/4.5/5%.
  • Blight AP health ratio increased from 1% target's maximum health per 100 AP to 1.5%.
  • Piercing Arrow health ratio reduced from 8 to 15% (based on level) target's missing health to 6 to 9% (based on level).
  • Charged damage amplification reduced from 0 to 100% (based on Piercing Arrow's charge time) to 0 to 50% (based on Piercing Arrow's charge time).
  • New effect: Each stack consumed against a champion or epic monster reduces the remaining cooldowns of basic abilities by 13% total cooldown, up to a 39% cooldown reduction per target.
  • New effect: Damage against monsters is capped at 120 per stack, up to 360 at maximum stacks.

  • Bugfix: Fixed a bug that caused the cooldown reduction to apply even when spell shield prevented Blighted Quiver stacks from detonating.

Since the last patch, we’ve seen the win rate of Ability Power Varus become significantly higher than his Attack Damage builds. This time, we’re nerfing him slightly to bring the win rates closer together.

Varus hasn’t been hitting the mark as of late. We’re buffing Hail of Arrows and the Attack Speed on Living Vengeance to reward him even more when he gets kills and assists.

Varus could use a small boost, and the numbers on Blighted Quiver’s active are messy, so we’re addressing both at once by smoothing the numbers out and pushing them up.

Recent changes have left Varus weak overall, so we’re giving him some extra damage that should be effective for attack-oriented builds.

The previous changes to Varus didn’t enable his attack-based builds and caster builds are still the variation of choice for the most part. We’re taking another swing at buffing up his attack centric builds, particularly for those that might want to prioritize putting skill points into Blighted Quiver.

  • Cooldown reduced from 25 seconds at all ranks to 22/20/18/16.

Patch 3.3Change

Caster builds have been dominant on Varus for all of Wild Rift’s lifetime, and attack-oriented builds have been much weaker, so we’re making some adjustments to bridge the gap between the two.

Piercing Arrow

  • Cooldown changed from 16/14/12/10 seconds to 15/14/13/12.

Blighted Quiver

  • On-hit base damage increased from 8/12/16/20 to 12/16/20/24.

Chain of Corruption

  • Cooldown reduced from 70/60/50 seconds to 65/55/45.
Patch 2.4Nerf

We are updating the Grievous Wounds (healing reduction) system to have different levels of severity, so some champions that apply it through abilities have been adjusted.

Hail of Arrows

  • Grievous Wounds reduced from 50% to 40%.

Varus could still use a bit more of a nudge to make him stronger in higher skill levels. We are amping up his execute so that players who can capitalize on his Blighted Quiver/Arrow combo are better rewarded.

  • Maximum missing health ratio increased from 9.75 to 20.25% (based on level) of target's missing health to 13 to 27% (based on level). Minimum missing health ratio unchanged.
