Blade of the Ruined King has been changed in 41 League of Legends patches. 10 buffs, 14 nerfs, 16 adjustments. Most recently buffed in Patch 25.14.
Blade of the Ruined King has fallen out of favor recently. Meanwhile, there has been a rise in popularity of health stacking within the game, which means BoRK should be a more popular pick up. To help it get back on everyone's radar we're buffing the % health damage this item provides which is the item's biggest selling point and fantasy.

We’re happy with the relative tuning of most AD items, but Blade of the Ruined King is currently dominating the on-hit space, taking over builds where it shouldn’t be, and generally making tanks feel bad way too quickly. While it’s fine that BoRK is clearly an anti-tank item, it does the job too well, so we’re specifically taking down some of its on-hit damage.

Blade of the Ruined King came out a little stronger than it should have for ADCs so we're bringing its power down and compensating its melee users. Blade should be specifically good when targeting health-stackers, not just a generically great starter item, hence the reduction in base stats.

We’re updating Blade of the Ruined King's damage profile to be centered more about the stats the item provides rather than the on-hit damage. We’re also taking this opportunity to move the effect of clawing shadows back to be triggered after 3 hits instead of on first attack.

- Old Effect: Your next basic attack on-hit against an enemy champion is empowered to slow them by 30% for 1 second (15 second cooldown).

The third stack consumes them all to deal 40 to 103 (based on level) bonus magic damage on-hit and slow the target by 25% for 2 seconds, while also granting you 25% bonus movement speed for the same duration.

These changes make Blade of the Ruined King a more universally useful item for Attack Damage champions and allow it to better fulfill its role in their arsenal as an item to combat high Health targets.
