Passive - The Darkin Scythe

Innate: Kayn has a secondary experience bar that progresses toward unlocking his Darkin and Shadow forms. He gains experience toward either form by taking down or dealing damage against melee or ranged champions (for Darkin and Shadow, respectively). Each completed form will appear at the summoning platform. Kayn can collect it to permanently transform over 6 seconds, restoring to full health and mana and becoming invulnerable, untargetable, and unable to act. The transformation will grant a passive bonus and empower some of Kayn's abilities. He gains a one-time Homeguard once the transformation is complete.

Shadow Bonus: For 3 seconds upon entering champion combat, Kayn deals 48% - 62% (based on level) of post-mitigation damage dealt against champions as bonus magic damage. This effect is primed after 8 seconds without champion combat, or upon casting Umbral Trespass.

Darkin Bonus: Rhaast's abilities will heal for 24% - 38% (based on level) of post-mitigation dealt against champions.

Active: Kayn dashes in the target direction, dealing physical damage to enemies he passes through. He then sweeps around, dealing the same damage to nearby enemies.

Both hits deal 35 bonus physical damage against minions and monsters.

Darkin Bonus: Reaping Slash instead deals 60% AD (+ 7% (+ 6% per 100 bonus AD) target's maximum health) physical damage with each hit, for a total of 120% AD (+ 14% (+ 12% per 100 bonus AD) target's maximum health). This damage has a cap against monsters that does not include the bonus damage.

Reaping Slash's dash speed scales with Kayn's total movement speed.

Active: Kayn sweeps up in the target direction, dealing physical damage to enemies hit and slowing them by 90% decaying over 1.5 seconds.

Physical Damage: 105 / 165 / 225 / 285 (+ 110% bonus AD)

Shadow Bonus: Blade's Reach area is extended. Kayn conjures an untargetable shadow at the casting position to perform Blade's Reach's sweep over 0.55 seconds in his stead, removing the ability's cast time.

Darkin Bonus: Blade's Reach knocks up enemies hit for 1 second.

Active: Kayn gains 35% bonus total movement speed and the ability to ignore terrain collision for a duration. He heals upon his first entry into terrain, and he gains unobstructed vision while inside terrain.

Duration: 5 / 5.5 / 6 / 6.5 seconds
Heal: 100 / 120 / 140 / 160 (+ 50% bonus AD)

If Kayn has been in champion combat during Shadow Step or within the last 3 seconds, the duration is reduced to 1.2 seconds. This effect also cannot remain active out of terrain for longer than 1.2 seconds and will cancel immediately if Kayn performs a basic attack or becomes immobilized or polymorphed.

Shadow Bonus: The cooldown is reduced to 10 seconds at all ranks. Kayn gains 100% slow resist while active and, upon entering terrain, the bonus total movement speed is increased to 70% for the remaining duration.

Passive: Kayn marks enemy champions he damaged in the last 3.15 seconds.

Physical Damage: 200 / 300 / 400 (+ 165% bonus AD)

Active: Kayn vanishes and dashes to a marked enemy champion. Upon arrival, he channels for up to 2.5 seconds, attaching to the target and revealing them. Umbral Trespass can be recast after 0.75 seconds, and does so automatically after the duration or if interrupted.

Recast: After a 0.75 -second delay, Kayn deals physical damage to the target and dashes out from their body in the target direction, detaching himself from them and becoming targetable again at the end of the dash.

Shadow Bonus: Umbral Trespass gains 200 bonus cast range and emerge range.

Darkin Bonus: Umbral Trespass instead deals physical damage equal to 15% (+ 13% per 100 bonus AD) target's maximum health, and heals him for 12% (+ 10% per 100 bonus AD) target's maximum health.

Kayn’s Darkin form is weaker compared to his other form, so we’re increasing his sustainability which should make teamfights easier to maneuver.

Our adjustments to marksmen last patch make it more difficult for Shadow Assassin Kayn to recharge and transform. However, once he does manage to transform into this form it's still an uphill battle, because his abilities aren’t strong enough to target and kill opponents with longer range. So, we’ve adjusted his transformation efficiency and increased his damage across the board.

  • Energy from damaging ranged champions increased from 18 to 24.
  • Energy from ranged champion takedowns increased from 90 to 120.
  • Shadow Assassin bonus damage increased from 38 to 52% (based on level) to 44 to 58% (based on level).

Blade's Reach

  • AD ratio increased from 120% bonus AD to 130%.

Shadow Step

  • Mana cost reduced from 80 to 50.
  • AD ratio increased from 40% bonus AD to 50%.

Players have chosen to take the red pill, and recently Rhaast has been terrorizing the Rift, while his Shadow Assassin form is nowhere to be seen. So we’re re-balancing both of these forms, and making the Shadow Assassin a little more scary to face.

The Darkin Scythe

  • Darkin heal reduced from 21 to 35% (based on level) to 18 to 32% (based on level).
  • Shadow Assassin bonus damage increased from 32 to 46% (based on level) to 38 to 52% (based on level).

Umbral Trespass

  • Base damage increased from 150/250/350 to 200/300/400.

While we’re happy with the performance of Darkin Slayer Kayn, Shadow Assassin Kayn is struggling to hold his own against his alter ego. We’re giving Shadow Assassin a handful of buffs to make the choice between this form and the Darkin Slayer form a meaningful one.

The Darkin Scythe

  • Shadow Assassin passive reset time reduced from 6 seconds to 5.
  • Shadow Assassin bonus damage increased from 14 to 42% (based on level) to 32 to 46% (based on level).

Shadow Step

  • Shadow Assassin cooldown reduced from 8 seconds to 7.

Umbral Trespass

  • "Shadow Assassin range increased slightly."

Even after our adjustments last patch, you could say that Shadow Assassin Kayn is still feeling a bit…blue. So, we’re increasing his burst potential with his passive, and also speeding up Blade’s Reach. We feel that ability still feels weaker, especially when compared to Slayher Kayn’s, so we’re hoping the speed up fits Shadow Assassins theme of quick strikes.

Since his release onto the Rift, Kayn is performing well below where we’d like. To help him out, we’re increasing the passive gain rate to allow him to reach Darkin or Shadow Assassin faster, as well as giving him some general buffs to help out his overall performance.

Stats

  • Charge generation per 10 seconds increased from (Minute2 + 15) to (Minute2 + 25).

Shadow Step

  • Shadow Assassin cooldown reduced from 9 seconds to 8.
  • Shadow Assassin bonus movement speed increased from 65% to 75%.

Umbral Trespass

  • Darkin Slayer base damage increased from 10% target's maximum health to 15%.
  • Darkin Slayer base heal increased from 7% target's maximum health to 10%.
