Sunfire Aegis has been changed in 19 League of Legends patches. 8 buffs, 4 nerfs, 5 adjustments. Most recently adjusted in Patch 26.6.

UNIQUE Passive - Immolate: Taking or dealing damage activates this passive for 3 seconds. Deal 20 (+ 1% bonus health) magic damage every second to enemies within cr 325 (+ 100% bonus [[size]]) units, with the damage being increased to 160% against minions and to 200% against monsters. This executes minions that would be killed by one more tick of damage.

Sunfire Aegis has felt annoying to purchase but we don't think the item itself is underpowered, leading us to the smallest of buffs in this patch. Tanks typically can't earn as much gold as other classes of champions, so instead of leaving them empty handed we're smoothing out the build path!

Based on our reads back in Patch 14.1, Sunfire Aegis was over performing and required a tap down in power. However, now that the dust has settled, it's become apparent that these nerfs weren't necessary, so we're walking them back now.

With the recent downgrade to Sunfire Aegis we expected tanks to farm less effectively than they could with the Immolate passive. Unfortunately the changes landed a bit weak in 12.22 resulting in tanks opting to just not buy the item which, in turn, resulted in a loss of farm for top lane tanks (jungle tanks made out alright though thanks to the companions). We still want Sunfire to be a useful tool for tanks as a first or second item, but not mandatory. So this patch we’re addressing these issues by buffing the tanks whose ability to farm was impacted most and increasing the state efficiency of Sunfire so that it's a more reliable tank damage option.

While it's no longer a mythic item, Sunfire is still your go-to option for waveclear and sustained damage as a tank.

  • Removed Unique Passive - Flametouch: At maximum Immolate stacks, your basic attacks create an explosion around you, applying a burn to all nearby enemies that deals your current Immolate damage to them for 3 seconds.
  • Removed: Immolate no longer deals 150% increased damage against monsters.
  • Removed: No longer has a Mythic passive granting 5% tenacity, 5% slow resist and 50 bonus health per Legendary item.
  • Removed: Living Forge item Forgefire Crest.
  • Limited to 1 Immolate item.

Sunfire Aegis has started to emerge as a powerful second item for DPS champions. While Fighters have dipped into other Tank items before, Sunfire offers the most stats and potent damage compared to other options. We're adjusting Sunfire so its damage output is more strongly tied to health stacking.

  • Stats: 450 health, 30 armor, 30 magic resistance, 15 ability haste.
  • Unique Passive - Immolate: Taking or dealing damage activates this passive for 3 seconds. Deal 20 to 40 (based on level) (+ 1% bonus health) magic damage per second to nearby enemies, increased by 50% against minions and 200% against monsters. Damaging enemy champions or epic monsters with this effect adds a stack for 5 seconds, increasing subsequent Immolate damage by 12%, stacking up to 6 times for a 72% increase (34.4 to 68.8 (based on level) (+ 1.72% bonus health) magic damage).
  • Unique Passive - Flametouch: At maximum stacks, your basic attacks explode around you, burning nearby enemies for your Immolate damage for 3 seconds.
  • Mythic Passive: Empowers other Legendary items with 5 ability haste.
  • Limited to 1 Mythic item.

Living Forge item: Forgefire Crest.

  • Stats: 550 health, 45 armor, 45 magic resistance, 20 ability haste.

Effects

  • IMMOLATE: Deal 20-40 (levels 1-18) (+1% bonus health) magic damage per second to nearby enemies (increased by 50% against minions and 200% against monsters). Damaging champions or Epic Monsters with this effect adds a stack, increasing subsequent Immolate damage by 12% for 5 seconds (max 6 stacks).
  • FLAMETOUCH: At maximum Immolate stacks, your basic attacks burn nearby enemies for your Immolate damage per second for 3 seconds
  • MYTHIC: Grants all other Legendary items 5 ability haste
