Sona was last adjusted in Patch 6.1b (). Across 12 patches, Sona has received 4 buffs, 5 nerfs, 3 adjustments since release in Patch 0.5.

Passive - Power Chord

Innate: Sona's basic ability cooldowns are reduced by 2% - 20% (based on level).

Innate - Melody: Whenever Sona casts a basic ability, her other basic abilities incur a 0.54 -second global cooldown and she generates a unique aura for 3 seconds that enhances herself and nearby allied champions.

Innate - Power Chord: Sona's basic ability casts generate a stack of Power Chord, stacking up to 3 times. At maximum stacks, her next basic attack against a champion is empowered to consume them all to have an uncancellable windup, deal 20 - 160 (based on level) (+ 15% AP) bonus magic damage, and stun the target for 0.5 seconds.

Sona gains maximum stacks upon respawning.

Gaining Power Chord's empowered attack resets Sona's basic attack timer.

Active: Sona strikes an irresistible chord that lasts for 3.75 seconds as it travels to the target location. Enemies near the chord are slowed, and it emits a pulse every 0.75 seconds that deals magic damage to them. Enemies damaged for the first time are also stunned for 1 second.

We’ve noticed Sona players struggling to find their harmony when it comes to the timing of consuming passive stacks. Now, her passive will only be consumed when attacking enemy champions or epic monsters. Since she's already performing well, we’re also tuning down some of her power.

Power Chord

  • New effect: Stacks are consumed upon attacking champions or epic monsters, rather than any target.

  • Base damage reduced from 50/90/130/170 to 40/80/120/160.

Sona is a master of recasting her chords like rapidfire, giving enemies a hard time. We’ve fine-tuned her, as well as her healing and shielding scaling to make sure she’s not deafening her opponents.

Stats

  • Health growth reduced from 105 to 96.

Power Chord

  • New effect: Sona's basic ability cooldowns are reduced by 2 to 30% (based on level).
  • New effect: Empowered attack now stuns the target for 0.5 seconds.
  • Removed: Empowered attack no longer inflicts a bonus effect based on the last basic ability cast.
  • Hymn of Valor - Staccato: Instead deals 28 to 224 (based on level) (+ 21% AP) modified magic damage.
  • Aria of Perseverance - Diminuendo: Reduces the target's size by 8% and outgoing damage by 25% (+ 4% per 100 AP) for 3 seconds.
  • Song of Celerity - Tempo: Slows the target by 50% (+ 4% per 100 AP) for 2 seconds, capped at 99%.

The recent systemic changes have been extremely favorable for Sona, so we’re lowering the volume on some of her scaling power, before she reaches a Crescendo.

Sona has been quietly rising in power for quite some time now, and has recently had some incredible performances alongside specific carries such as Seraphine. We’re reducing her ability to sustain and zoom her allies around the map during the mid-game while making sure to maintain her strong teamfight presence as that's her core strength.

Patch 2.4cNerf

Sona’s been hitting all the high notes in recent times, but rather than impact supportive capabilities, we think trimming down her damage dealing would fit her utility identity a bit more. We’re also increasing her ultimate’s cooldown slightly to give opponents some more breathing room when dealing with her game-changing ultimate.

Patch 2.3cNerf

Sona has been topping the charts with her consistent pressure and utility. We don't want to impact Sona's ability to deal and prevent damage, but we do want to tone down her engage and disengage tools. If you can pressure Sona into using (3) Song of Celerity in lane, she should take a harder hit.

Sona added to Wild Rift

Sona barely had any mana issues, even at lower levels. We want her to be somewhat mana-gated so players have to weigh what spells to use instead of facerolling.
