Serpent's Fang has been changed in 13 League of Legends patches. 4 buffs, 1 nerf, 6 adjustments. Most recently adjusted in Patch 14.4.

- Bug Fix: Now properly reduces shields on application if applied by an on-hit effect.

As far as its assassin users are concerned, Serpent’s Fang is sitting at a reasonable power level but remains a niche purchase, so we’d like to give it some more generic power to help it break out of the "only purchase versus shielders" position it’s found itself in. A small lethality buff should help this item be a bit more desirable for any assassins looking to shred shields.

Rather than being a situational item against shield-heavy enemies, Serpent's Fang has become a staple in the second item slot for physical assassins. We want to preserve its low gold cost so that it's still an accessible situational pickup, but with stats that are more proportional.

While Serpent's Fang's primary users are physical assassins, its power for ranged users feels underwhelming. We're reducing the gap between melee and ranged shield reduction to make it an option for countering high-shield enemies, even without assassins on your side.

- Unique Passive - Shield Reaver:
- New Effect: Dealing damage to an enemy champion reduces any shields they gain within the next 3 seconds by 50%, and if the target was not already afflicted by this effect, reduces all active shields on them by the same amount.
- This does not affect magic damage shields.
- Old Effect: Basic attacks and abilities deal 70 (+ 40% bonus AD) bonus physical damage against shield. Does not affect magic damage shields.
- Bug Fix: Fixed a bug where Shield Reaver would not reduce the target's current shields if the user owned an item with an on-hit effect.
Serpent’s Fang is a powerful but underwhelming and confusing item, so we're making it more broadly usable. Imagine Grievous Wounds for shields, but with extra profits!

When you damage an enemy who is unaffected by Shield Reaver, reduce all shields on them by 50% for melee champions and 25% for ranged champions.
- ON-HIT ITEM BUGFIX: Fixed a bug where Serpent's Fang's Shield Reaver passive would not reduce an enemy's shields if the user had any on-hit items equipped

Although Fang is a strong item, it hasn’t seen much action, so we’re increasing its damage to solidify it as a powerful situational choice for assassins.
