Wit's End Changes

Patch 14.19

nerf

We're removing some of the level- and stat-scaling from various items in order to slow date late-game combat. While Wit's End has come a long way from when it also gave 40 AD on purchase, it's still a solid aggressive item with a meaningful amount of magic resist and tenacity. And it doesn't need to scale into one of the highest on-hit items in the game to perform that duty.

General

  • Combine cost increased to 550 gold from 500 gold.
  • Total cost unchanged.
  • Attack speed reduced to 50% from 55%.
  • Magic resistance reduced to 45 from 50.
  • Fray damage changed to 45 at all levels from 40 to 80 (based on level).

Patch 14.15

change

Wit’s End had its on-hit damage scaled back when it used to give flat attack damage as well, which had made it overbearing in lane against magic damage champions. Now that the AD is gone, it’s become somewhat of a trap as an early purchase. By smoothing out its early game damage, it should once again be viable as a first item.

General

  • Undocumented - New Recipe: Recurve Bow + Negatron Cloak + Recurve Bow + 500 gold = 2800 gold.
  • Old Recipe: Recurve Bow + Negatron Cloak + Dagger + 900 gold = 2800 gold.
  • Fray damage changed to 40 to 80 (based on level) from 15 to 80 (based on level).

Patch 14.2

change

General

  • Bug Fix: No longer is incorrectly displayed in the attack damage section of the shop.

Patch 14.1

change

New

  • Recipe: Recurve Bow + Negatron Cloak + Dagger + 900 gold = 2800 gold.
  • Stats: 55% attack speed, 50 magic resistance, 20% tenacity.
  • Unique Passive - Fray: Basic attacks deal 15 to 80 (based on level) bonus magic damage on-hit.
  • Limited to 1 Wit's End.

  • Stats: 40 attack damage, 40% attack speed, 40 magic resistance.
  • Unique Passive - Fray: Basic attacks deal 15 to 80 (based on level) bonus magic damage on-hit and grant you 20 bonus movement speed for 2 seconds.
  • Limited to 1 Wit's End.

Patch 13.11

change

General

  • Bug Fix: No longer sometimes costs 100 more gold than intended.

Patch 13.10

change

General

  • New Recipe: Hearthbound Axe + Null-Magic Mantle + Recurve Bow + 950 gold = 3200 gold.
  • Old Recipe: Hearthbound Axe + Null-Magic Mantle + Pickaxe + 775 gold = 3100 gold.

Patch 12.3

nerf

General

  • Combine cost increased to 775 gold from 675 gold.
  • Total cost unchanged.

Patch 12.1

nerf

Wit's End has been powerful as an early defensive and offensive option for attack speed champions. However, considering its threat as a DPS item, its build path and stats counter magic damage a bit too much, too early.

General

  • New Recipe: Hearthbound Axe + Null-Magic Mantle + Pickaxe + 675 gold = 3100 gold.
  • Old Recipe: Hearthbound Axe + Negatron Cloak + Long Sword + 750 gold = 3100 gold.
  • Magic resistance reduced to 40 from 50.

Patch 11.17

change

Wit's End has become a powerful early rush item for a variety of attack speed champions. While it's good to offer early attack speed options, Wit's End often becomes the best choice regardless of how much magic damage the enemy team has. We're reshaping its damage scaling so that it's just as powerful late but isn't only being picked up for its early damage value.

General

  • Fray damage changed to 15 to 80 (based on level) from 15 to 80 (based on level). Formula changed.

Patch 11.9

buff

For such a niche item, Wit's End lacks oomph, even when picked up in the right scenario. Adjusting the build path and adding more damage should make it feel more powerful all around and appeal to more champions.

General

  • New Recipe: Hearthbound Axe + Negatron Cloak + Long Sword + 750 gold = 3100 gold.
  • Old Recipe: Hearthbound Axe + Negatron Cloak + Dagger + 800 gold = 3100 gold.
  • Attack damage increased to 40 from 30.

Patch 10.23

change

Now grants movement speed on-hit instead of healing.

General

  • Updated icon.

New

  • Recipe: Hearthbound Axe + Negatron Cloak + Dagger + 800 gold = 3100 gold.
  • Stats: 40% attack speed, 50 magic resistance, 30 attack damage.
  • Unique Passive - Fray: Basic attacks deal 15 to 80 (based on level) bonus magic damage on-hit and grant you 20 bonus movement speed for 2 seconds.
  • Limited to 1 Wit's End.

Old

  • Recipe: Recurve Bow + Negatron Cloak + Dagger + 800 gold = 2900 gold.
  • Stats: 50% attack speed, 50 magic resistance, 5% movement speed.
  • Unique Passive - At Wit's End: Basic attacks deal 15 to 80 (based on level) bonus magic damage on-hit. While below 50% health, heal for 100% of this effect's post-mitigation damage.

  • Removed Unique Passive: Basic attacks deal 42 bonus magic damage on-hit.
  • Removed Unique Passive: Basic attacks (on-hit) grant 6 magic resistance and reduce the target's magic resistance by 6 for 5 seconds. Both effects stack up to 30 magic resistance. Ranged only steal 3 magic resistance per basic attack, up to the same cap.
