Essence Reaver has been changed in 7 patches since release in Patch 2.4. 3 buffs, 1 nerf, 3 adjustments. Most recently adjusted in Patch 6.2.

UNIQUE Passive - Mana Siphon: Basic attacks restore 3% missing mana on-hit.

New Recipe:

  • Cloak of Agility + Long Sword + Sheen + 700 gold = 3000 gold.
  • Old Recipe: Caulfield's Warhammer + Cloak of Agility + 850 gold = 3050 gold.
  • Attack damage reduced from 40 to 35.

New Unique Passive - Spellblade:

  • Your ability casts generate a stack for 10 seconds, refreshing on subsequent casts and stacking up to 3 times. Each unique ability counts once every 2 seconds. Basic attacks on-hit will consume a stack to deal 90% AD bonus physical damage and grant 40 bonus move speed for 2 seconds. The damage is affected by critical strike modifiers.

Unique Passive - Essence Flare

  • Removed.

  • Rengar Savagery within brush can now properly proc Essence Flare.

Our adjustments to Essence Reaver last patch did not meet our goals, so we’re adjusting its value some more. We hope these changes make it a more desirable pick up in the earlier stages of the game.

Unique passive - Essence Flare

  • Cooldown reduced from 6 seconds to 4.
  • Bonus physical damage increased from 0 to 30% (based on critical strike chance) to 20 to 30% (based on critical strike chance).

Essence Reaver sat in an odd spot for a while and was only a good pick up for a select few. So, we’re adjusting it so it can be an amplifier for anyone who builds crit.

General

  • Total cost reduced from 3250 gold to 3050 gold.
  • Combine cost reduced from 1050 gold to 850 gold.
  • Attack damage reduced from 45 to 40.

Unique passive - Essence Flare

  • New passive: Your next damaging ability or empowered attack deals up to 0 to 30% (based on critical rate) bonus physical damage (6 second cooldown). Basic attacks against champions reduce the cooldown by 1 second.
  • Old passive: Damaging active abilities and empowered attacks deal 10 (+ 70% critical strike chance) bonus physical damage. The same ability can only trigger this effect once per unique target per cast.
Patch 3.0Buff

Lately, Essence Reaver has been falling a bit flat. Most of the time it is only slightly better than other options, even for the champions that should be highly invested in the stats and unique effects that it grants them. We are going to give it some extra power to make it a more compelling option in a wider variety of scenarios.

Essence Reaver is offering too much for too cheap of a price, so we are carving it down to keep it in line.

Recipe:

  • Caulfield's Warhammer + Cloak of Agility + 900 gold = 3100 gold.

Stats:

  • 40 attack damage, 25% critical strike chance, 25 ability haste.

Unique Passive - Essence Flare:

  • Damaging active abilities and empowered attacks deal 10 (+ 70% critical strike chance) bonus physical damage. The same ability can only trigger this effect once per unique target per cast.

Unique Passive - Mana Siphon:

  • Basic attacks restore 2% missing mana on-hit.
