Winter's Approach has been changed in 10 League of Legends patches. 4 buffs, 2 nerfs, 2 adjustments. Most recently adjusted in Patch 25.5.

UNIQUE Passive - Awe: Grants bonus health equal to 15% bonus mana.
UNIQUE Passive - Manaflow: Grants a charge every 8 seconds, up to 4 charges. Consumes a charge [[on-hit]] and whenever affecting an enemy or ally with an [[champion ability|ability]] to grant 3 bonus mana, increased to 6 for champion targets, up to a maximum of 360 bonus mana.
Passive: Transforms into Fimbulwinter at 360 bonus mana.

With the avalanche of new and updated Preseason tank items, Winter's Approach has lost its place among the Legendary items (which is a shame because winter finally came). We're reverting some of our nerfs from last year so that Winter's Approach stands out more as the mana/health stacking second item.

Winter may be over for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, but Winter’s Approach is still the premier choice for mana tanks and a few mages, despite being a scaling item. We’re increasing its cost to make it less appealing as a first purchase.

  • Stats: 400 health, 500 mana, 15 ability haste.
  • Unique Passive - Awe: Grants bonus health equal to 8% maximum mana.
  • Unique Passive - Mana Charge: Grants a charge every 8 seconds, up to 4 charges. Affecting an enemy or ally with an attack or ability consumes a charge and grants 3 bonus mana, increased to 6 if it's a champion, up to maximum of 360 bonus mana. Transforms into Fimbulwinter at +360 mana.
  • Limited to 1 Mana Charge item.

Tanks who need mana can really struggle during teamfights as they slowly grind through their mana bars. Let the spell spamming commence. (Thanks, Wild Rift!)

  • AWE (PASSIVE): Gain bonus health equal to 8% mana
  • MANA CHARGE (PASSIVE): Strike a target with an ability or auto attack to consume a charge and gain 3 bonus mana, doubled if the target is a champion. Grants a maximum of 360 mana at which point this item transforms into Fimbulwinter

Fimbulwinter

  • BUILD PATH: This item upgrades from Winter's Approach upon reaching Mana Charge's maximum bonus 360 mana.
  • HEALTH: 400
  • MANA: 860
  • ABILITY HASTE: 15
  • AWE (PASSIVE): Gain bonus health equal to 8% mana
  • EVERLASTING (PASSIVE): Slowing (melee only) or immobilizing an enemy champion consumes 3% of current mana and grants a shield for 3 seconds, absorbing 100-200 (+5% current mana) damage (8 second cooldown). The shield is increased by 80% if more than one enemy is nearby
